“Thank you so much for helping us with the kids, mom. We really appreciate it.”

“Oh, it was no trouble at all. It was lovely seeing you and your wonderful family.”

“This means so much to us, Ms. Broke, you have no idea. I don’t know what we would’ve done without you.”

“You are too sweet, Frances. Now, you two take care of yourselves.”

“We’ll do our best.”

“Connor! You had a nice nap?”

“Yep! Swimming got me really tired, but I’m well rested now.”

“Did you have a good practice?”

“Yup. Aiden’s on the team, so we weren’t all strangers. Our captain’s really cool. He’s won, like, a million trophies for swimming!”

“That’s pretty amazing. Promise me you won’t be pushing yourself too hard.”

“I promise.”

“Oh, especially with Charlie’s birthday coming up. I’d like for all of us to be awake and energized then.”

“Oh, I know I’ll be! Charlie, you’re gonna love the present I got you!”

“Are you gonna do all my homework?”

“Hey! That’s a great idea! I should run to do more of my SSAT study guide so I don’t have to do it on your birthday! Thanks Charlie!”

“Connor, you didn’t finish…”

“Hey, let’s not worry too much. He cares about his education. That’s good, isn’t it? I’m sure he’ll get back on track once these tests slow down… whenever that is.”

“How was my future Olympic swimmer’s first day of practice?”

“It went great!”

“Do you want a snack? I don’t think you’ve eaten all day.”

“Mmm… maybe after a quick nap. I’m completely wiped out. I’ll be fine until then.”

“Oh well, if you’re sure…”

“… ‘Cause I know I’m not.”

“See, Connor? This is what you could do after several years of practice.”

“Eep!”

“But for now, why not just swim around?”

“Y-Yeah, I can do that!”

“The water is really pretty during early season. That’s ‘cause it’s before the kids’ classes start so no one’s thrown up in the pool yet.”

“Eugh…”

“Yeah. Enjoy this while you can.”

“I… think I can do that.”

“Sooo… Whaddaya think?”

“Well, our captain’s really nice, but I thought our team would be a bit bigger.”

“Oh, it is, it’s just meet and greet week. Attendance is optional until first practice next week; something about team-building and all that. You’ll get to meet coach Waters then, too!”

“Heh, Waters is a good name for a swim coach, huh?”

“It sure is!”

“So what does the team usually do?”

“Well, Adrien and I, with a few others, we handle most of the fancy stuff. You, uh… I guess you could do the relay? Just leave this to us, and we’ll win no problem.”

“Are you… implying I can’t swim well?”

“Oh, no, no, not at all! Let’s, uh, just get started then!”

“Hey, you’re new here, yeah?”

“U-Uh-huh! I’m Connor!”

“A pleasure to meet you, Connor. I hope I can be a good captain for you.”

“I hope I can be a good captain for you, too!”

“Um…”

“Fiddlesticks! I meant, uh, be a good captainee to you? Be captained by you?”
