“Connor! You had a nice nap?”

“Yep! Swimming got me really tired, but I’m well rested now.”

“Did you have a good practice?”

“Yup. Aiden’s on the team, so we weren’t all strangers. Our captain’s really cool. He’s won, like, a million trophies for swimming!”

“That’s pretty amazing. Promise me you won’t be pushing yourself too hard.”

“I promise.”

“Oh, especially with Charlie’s birthday coming up. I’d like for all of us to be awake and energized then.”

“Oh, I know I’ll be! Charlie, you’re gonna love the present I got you!”

“Are you gonna do all my homework?”

“Hey! That’s a great idea! I should run to do more of my SSAT study guide so I don’t have to do it on your birthday! Thanks Charlie!”

“Connor, you didn’t finish…”

“Hey, let’s not worry too much. He cares about his education. That’s good, isn’t it? I’m sure he’ll get back on track once these tests slow down… whenever that is.”

“Morning, hon.”

“So what’s Connor up so early about?”

“Something about a test, or multiple tests. I can’t keep up with all these.”

“I worry about him and all these activities he’s taking up one after another. But then again, I seem to remember you being the same way, Buck… and then I worry more.”

“Hey, I turned out fine, didn’t I?”

“You fainted on our senior trip and ended up in the hospital for two weeks.”

“You have a point there…”

“But I’m sure Connor knows his limits better than you did.”

“We trust him to take care of himself, don’t we?”

“Maybe we trust him a little too much…”

“*Yawn* What’s got you up so early on a Saturday?”

“Just studying from my SSAT handbook before I get a little practice in before we head to the athletic center this afternoon.”

“Is that the one you need for the Sixam pilgrimage scholarships?”

“No, that’s the SPSPT.”

“So this is the career readiness test?”

“No, that’s the SMCRAT.”

“Then what’s this SSAT?”

“Sim State Achievement Test, but thanks for reminding me I have a whole lot more studying to do, dad.”

“Uh, you’re welcome, I guess?”

“It would be so cool to be an alien like Grandpa!”

“Well, your mother is half alien, so that makes you and your brother a quarter alien.”

“Then how come we don’t have any green?”

“Um, my freckles are green.”

“Woah! You’re right! They are! Dad! Dad! Do I have any green freckles?”

“Nope, just regular ones. Sorry.”
