’s list, I remember about 60% of that. I came onto the Sims 2 scene in early 2006, so my earliest memories lean more toward 2006 – 2007. Still, many of the things I first remember happened a decade or so ago! I did include some later memories here, though.
TS2 released in September 2004, 2 different people bought me a copy of it for my birthday (Halloween) the same year, so I’ve been there since almost the beginning…minus like a month & a half. Mostly I lurked up until about 5-6 years ago, but I remember watching a lot of these dramas roll by.
On the one hand, I think lurking instead of actively participating stunted my growth a lot as a creator & member of this community. There were a ton of really awesome people that I’d have loved to be friends with back in the day & I feel a little sad that I never made that connection. I often wished that I had a bunch of other CC creators to bounce ideas off of & help me improve.
On the other hand… well… the community as a whole had a tendency to lean towards visible drama, & I let that scare me off from making connections. I don’t think most people would have started things, but opening myself up to that possibility was not something I could easily do… to the point where I just didn’t. That’s on me, though.
Oh man, I avoided cc like the plague in my early days (partly bc talking about mods in the official bbs was like screaming VOLDEMORT, or at least where I went) but I remember a few gems like:

“That, I’m afraid, is gonna take a long time for anyone to find out.”
“… And so my mom just keeps telling me about kids who knew what was going on with them from the start, but I didn’t know a thing. How was I supposed to know, though? I mean, I felt something was off, but I just thought it was because I was ugly and I hated everyone.”
“I just… I just wonder if maybe I’m crazy or something. I felt worse after becoming a teen, but I really did think I was going to get better. But I mean, I wore dresses when my mom told me to, so I guess… I don’t know.”
“Hey, you don’t have to have known right away. When we’re born, no one comes into the room to tell us the meaning behind everything we’ll feel. Some people just figure things out faster than others. It’s not exclusive to dysphoria, either, sometimes it takes more time to notice things like depression, or heck, even the flu.”
“Are you serious? But my mom said…”
“My mom said a lot of things, too. Some things are just better to learn ourselves.”
“That makes sense. Wow.”
